Artist Bio

Mostly a self taught artist, Charles L. Duhon received an art scholarship and his degree in Advertising and Illustration. Along with an established career in computer graphics, Charles continues to cultivate his skills in fine art.

For more than a decade Charles has been focusing on marine art and building a successful business from commissions and print sales. Creating unique watercolor paintings of private yachts and commercial ships, his work is becoming well known in the marine industry and boating community.

Honored by some local corporate sponsors and several nautical magazines, his artwork continues to be published nationally and his business “Artistry Marine Art” exhibits regularly at regional boat shows, marine stores, yacht clubs and artists groups. Charles has also performed watercolor demonstrations for local art clubs and in the future he plans to expand into offering workshops and tutoring students.

Charles’ paintings are almost all from commissions and he is a regular contributor of art to Sable V Fine Art Gallery on the Strand in Galveston, Texas. Sable V is one of the finest galleries in Galveston and also has two other locations in Wimberley, Texas and New Orleans, Louisana. The studio of “Artistry Marine Art” is located in Mesquite, Texas and Charles’ virtual gallery and web site is on the internet at www.ArtistryMarineArt.com.

Artist Statement

For many years, I have been painting what I know and love, marine art and yacht portraits. This started when I began creating paintings of my friends’ boats for gifts and now has become very popular with boat owners and marine art collectors. One of the benefits of my business “Artistry Marine Art” is that it has enabled me to be more creative and produce more marine art for the general public. At this stage in my career, I feel it is important to have the support of art galleries to increase my exposure, enhance my image and inspire my art.

My style of watercolor painting has often been described as a blend of traditional transparent techniques that is reinforced by bold opaque colors, somewhat like the acrylic medium. The majority of my art is realistic and very detailed to satisfy most of my clients, but recently some of my more spontaneous paintings are showing an increase in interest and sales.

As an avid sailor and boating enthusiast, I want my art to reflect that pleasure boating is a lifestyle that has kept families together for generations. I am dedicated to the tradition of capturing the spirit of boating with stunning paintings that people will treasure for a lifetime and beyond.
