Handbells Lynn is a very talented musician, when we met she was singing in the church choir, and a short time later joined the Ruth Greer Handbell Choir at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Richardson, Texas. She has played with several professional Handbell Choirs in the Dallas area since 1988, such as Brookhaven College Ensemble, The Sounds of Change, Concert Bells of Fort Worth, The Cast of Bronze. She rehearses two or three times a week and has numerous performances each year including handbell festivals and substituting in other bell choirs. A few Handbell choirs have released CD's of their music and to date Lynn has participated in several recording sessions and performed on three CDs. Lynn has become a very well known and sought after ringer in the Dallas area and she continues to excel in her musical abilities.
Sailing I have been a sailor all my life and am very fortunate that my family also shares this passion. Many years ago we were into racing and winning trophies with Phoenix, our 24 foot Mirage sailboat and for many years sailed out of Captains Cove Marina in Lake Ray Hubbard. We even took our honeymoon aboard a tall sailing ship in the Caribbean, and we have sailed aboard several boats from inland lakes to Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. We now own a classic design, a Hunter-34 named Artistry, see our boat page to learn all about our "retirement boat" and the area in which we sail. She is berthed at Bay View Marina where she is under continual renovation while being sailed as often as possible! The name Artistry was chosen because of my career as an artist, Lynn's skills as a musical artist and our belief that sailing itself is an art.
Other Hobbies
We share quite a few interests as a family and have a few exclusive to each of us, but harmony is important to us and we support the differences in each of us. In addition to our sailing and Lynn's handbells, I have a addiction to kites, yes, kites of all kinds! I am into dual-line sport kites that are fast, exciting and can be steered all over the sky and if you're not careful, right into the ground! On the other hand, Lynn and Jasmine like single-line kites, the ones that Lynn can fly with a glass of wine in her hand. To date we own about fifteen kites (I think) two of which I designed and built myself, recently Lynn has declared that I must sell one before I buy a new one! (oh well)
Fly fishing in salt and fresh water is also a relaxing pastime, although I do more fishing than catching, but that's why they call it fishing, right? This is one hobby of mine that Lynn doesn't care for, but I kind of like that. I own and sail two 3600 class remote-controlled sailboats, what can I say, guys just like anything that's remote-controlled. I also collect nautical fiction/adventure books and have even got Lynn hooked on a few of my favorite marine authors. Lynn has an extensive decorative bell collection and she is really interested in travel, plays the piano sometimes and I think is secretly working on being an expert on Chardonays.
